Baseboard

Baseboard is the trim board at the bottom of a wall where it meets the floor.

Interior Finishes and Trim

Why it matters

It protects walls from scuffs and helps cover small floor and drywall imperfections.

Where people get this wrong

Tall baseboards can make a room feel more finished, but they must be proportioned. Baseboard height affects outlet and door casing details.

Real-world example

Kids run toy trucks along the wall and the baseboard takes the hit instead of the drywall. That is baseboard doing its job.

Where this hits your build

This comes up during the finish phase. Lighting, angles, and personal expectations collide here. What looks fine at noon can look rough at dusk.

Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
