DWV system
The DWV system is the network of drain, waste, and vent pipes that removes used water and sewer gases from a building.
Why it matters
Proper DWV layout prevents slow drains, sewer-gas odors, and costly rework if fixtures are moved after rough-in.
Where people get this wrong
DWV pipes carry waste water out and bring air in for proper flow. Supply lines bring clean water in. They are separate systems.
Real-world example
The plumber roughs in the DWV system during framing, running drain lines to each bathroom and kitchen fixture with vent pipes through the roof.
Where this hits your build
This comes up during rough-in and final fixture installation. Accessibility for future repairs matters as much as the initial install.
