Flashing
Flashing is material that directs water away from seams and openings like windows, doors, roof edges, and deck connections.
Why it matters
Most leaks happen at transitions. Flashing controls those transitions.
Where people get this wrong
Caulk is not flashing. Caulk is a helper. Flashing must be layered so water flows out, not in.
Real-world example
Water always takes the easiest path. Flashing is you building a little slide so water leaves the house instead of exploring the wall.
Where this hits your build
This affects how your home handles water. Water damage is one of the most expensive problems to fix, and it often starts with details that seem small.
Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
