Level 2 charging

Level 2 charging uses a 240-volt dedicated circuit to charge an electric vehicle, adding roughly 25 to 30 miles of range per hour.

Why it matters

It is the practical standard for home EV charging. Most EVs fully recharge overnight on Level 2.

Where people get this wrong

Level 2 requires a dedicated 240-volt circuit and a charging station. It is not the same as plugging into a dryer outlet, though the voltage is similar.

Real-world example

You install a 240-volt, 50-amp circuit in the garage with a wall-mounted Level 2 charger. Your EV goes from 20 percent to full in about 8 hours overnight.

Where this hits your build

This term shows up during construction and affects decisions that are hard to reverse once the work moves forward. Understanding it now saves time, money, and frustration later.

Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
