P-trap
A P-trap is the curved section of drain pipe under a sink that holds water to block sewer gas.
Why it matters
That small water seal keeps bad smells out of the home.
Where people get this wrong
The trap is supposed to hold water. That water is the seal. A rarely used sink can have a dry trap and start smelling.
Real-world example
A guest bathroom smells like sewer even though it looks clean. You run the faucet and the smell disappears. The trap dried out.
Where this hits your build
This comes up during rough-in and final fixture installation. Accessibility for future repairs matters as much as the initial install.
