Short cycling
Short cycling is when heating or cooling turns on and off too quickly instead of running steady.
Why it matters
It wastes energy, increases wear on equipment, and often leaves humidity control worse.
Where people get this wrong
Short cycling is not always a broken unit. Oversizing can cause it. A new thermostat rarely fixes short cycling by itself.
Real-world example
The AC blasts cold air for five minutes, shuts off, then comes right back on. The house never feels settled. That is short cycling.
Where this hits your build
This affects daily comfort in every room. Problems often show up after move-in when certain rooms run hot, cold, or noisy.
Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
