Slab-on-grade

Slab-on-grade is a concrete slab poured at ground level that acts as the floor and part of the foundation.

Site, Foundation, and Drainage

Why it matters

A good slab is strong, flat, and dry. A bad slab can crack, wick moisture, and cause flooring failures.

Where people get this wrong

A slab is not only concrete. It includes base prep, vapor barrier, reinforcement, and joints. A thick slab does not automatically mean a good slab.

Real-world example

A homeowner installs flooring and it bubbles or smells musty. The slab might be sending moisture upward because the vapor barrier is missing or damaged.

Where this hits your build

This matters during site work and foundation. Mistakes here get buried and are expensive to fix later. Pay attention before concrete is poured.
