Tape and mud
Tape and mud is the process of covering drywall seams with tape and joint compound to make a smooth surface.
Why it matters
Good seam work prevents cracks and keeps walls looking flat.
Where people get this wrong
It takes multiple coats. One pass is not enough. Drying time matters. Rushing causes flaws.
Real-world example
A contractor says the drywall is done, but you can still see the tape line under the paint. That is usually rushed mud work or not enough sanding.
Where this hits your build
This comes up during the finish phase. Lighting, angles, and personal expectations collide here. What looks fine at noon can look rough at dusk.
Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
