Weep holes

Weep holes are small openings that let trapped water drain out of systems like brick veneer.

Why it matters

Brick and stone can absorb water. Weep holes give that water a way out so it does not soak the wall behind.

Where people get this wrong

Weep holes should not be clogged or covered by landscaping. Brick veneer is not waterproof. It is a rain screen when detailed correctly.

Real-world example

After heavy rain, the brick looks dark for a while. If water has no way out, it can push inward. Weep holes are like a drain at the bottom of the system.
