Butt joint
A butt joint is a drywall seam where the cut ends of two drywall sheets meet.
Why it matters
Butt joints are harder to hide because there is no tapered edge. They often become visible if not finished well.
Where people get this wrong
Butt joints are not avoidable, but they can be planned and finished carefully. A visible seam is often a butt joint issue.
Real-world example
You paint a long wall and one seam shows like a shadow line. Many times that seam is a butt joint that was not feathered wide enough.
Where this hits your build
This comes up during the finish phase. Lighting, angles, and personal expectations collide here. What looks fine at noon can look rough at dusk.
