Cove joint

The cove joint is the seam where a basement wall meets the slab floor.

Site, Foundation, and Drainage

Why it matters

It is a common place for water to enter because it is a joint, not a solid monolithic pour.

Where people get this wrong

Water at the cove joint is often a drainage issue, not a wall crack issue. Interior sealants can help, but exterior drainage is usually the main fix.

Real-world example

You see a damp line where the floor meets the wall after heavy rains. Many times that water is coming at the cove joint because pressure is high outside.

Where this hits your build

This matters during site work and foundation. Mistakes here get buried and are expensive to fix later. Pay attention before concrete is poured.
