Sump pump
A sump pump is a pump in a pit that removes water from under or around the foundation and sends it outside.
Why it matters
It is often the last line of defense against basement water.
Where people get this wrong
A sump pump does not fix bad grading. It manages the result. It needs power. Backup power can matter.
Real-world example
A storm knocks power out and the sump pump stops. Water rises fast. That is why some homes need a battery backup.
Where this hits your build
This comes up during rough-in and final fixture installation. Accessibility for future repairs matters as much as the initial install.
