Electrical rough-in

Electrical rough-in is the stage where wiring, boxes, and runs are installed before insulation and drywall.

Electrical, Power, and Lighting

Why it matters

This is the easiest time to add outlets, plan lighting, and run future-proof wiring. After drywall, changes cost more.

Where people get this wrong

Rough-in is not the finish stage. Fixtures and covers come later. Spacing and placement should match real furniture layouts, not only a plan sheet.

Real-world example

You realize the bed will cover the only outlet on the wall. During rough-in, moving that outlet is a small tweak. After drywall, it becomes a multi-trade repair.

Where this hits your build

This matters during rough-in and before drywall. Once walls close, adding or moving wiring becomes expensive. Plan ahead.
