Prehung door

A prehung door is a door already mounted in its frame, ready to install as one unit.

Why it matters

It usually installs straighter and more reliably than trying to hang a door slab into an old frame.

Where people get this wrong

Prehung does not guarantee good installation. Shimming and plumb still matter. Door size and swing direction must be confirmed before ordering.

Real-world example

A door that looks fine but never latches cleanly can be a frame problem. A properly installed prehung unit can save you years of door annoyance.

Where this hits your build

This term shows up during construction and affects decisions that are hard to reverse once the work moves forward. Understanding it now saves time, money, and frustration later.

Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
