Pressure reducing valve (PRV)
A pressure reducing valve lowers water pressure coming into the house to a safer, steadier level.
Why it matters
High water pressure stresses fixtures, hoses, and valves. Over time it can cause leaks.
Where people get this wrong
Good pressure and high pressure are not the same. A PRV can fail and need replacement.
Real-world example
A hose bib works like a fire hose and faucets slam shut with a bang. That can be a sign pressure is too high and the system needs control.
Where this hits your build
This comes up during rough-in and final fixture installation. Accessibility for future repairs matters as much as the initial install.
