Reducer strip
A reducer strip is a tapered transition piece that bridges a height difference between two adjacent flooring materials.
Why it matters
It prevents tripping at floor transitions and gives a clean finished look where materials of different thicknesses meet.
Where people get this wrong
A reducer is for height differences. A T-molding is for floors at the same height. Using the wrong one creates a gap or a trip hazard.
Real-world example
The hallway hardwood is thicker than the bathroom tile. A reducer strip ramps smoothly from one surface down to the other in the doorway.
Where this hits your build
This comes up during the finish phase. Lighting, angles, and personal expectations collide here. What looks fine at noon can look rough at dusk.
