T-molding

T-molding is a T-shaped transition strip that bridges two flooring surfaces of similar height where they meet.

Why it matters

It provides a clean, finished joint and allows each floor surface to expand and contract independently without buckling.

Where people get this wrong

T-molding is for floors at the same height. If there is a height difference, use a reducer strip instead.

Real-world example

Hardwood in the hallway meets tile in the bathroom. A T-molding strip sits in the doorway, covering the expansion gap between the two materials.

Where this hits your build

This term shows up during construction and affects decisions that are hard to reverse once the work moves forward. Understanding it now saves time, money, and frustration later.

Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
