Waterproofing (foundation)
Foundation waterproofing is the system that keeps ground water from entering a basement or crawlspace.
Why it matters
Water around a foundation creates pressure. Waterproofing and drainage control keep the home dry.
Where people get this wrong
Waterproofing is different from dampproofing. Dampproofing is weaker. Interior sealants often do not solve exterior water pressure.
Real-world example
A basement wall stays dry most of the year, then a wet season hits and water shows up at the cove joint. That often points to exterior water management, not paint.
Where this hits your build
This affects how your home handles water. Water damage is one of the most expensive problems to fix, and it often starts with details that seem small.
Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
