Grounding
Grounding is connecting the electrical system to the earth so fault energy has a safe path.
Why it matters
Grounding reduces shock risk and helps protect equipment during faults and surges.
Where people get this wrong
Grounding is not the same as bonding. A three-prong outlet does not automatically mean the home has proper grounding.
Real-world example
You plug in a tool in the garage and get a small tingle from the metal case. That is a sign something is wrong with the fault path. Proper grounding helps prevent that situation.
Where this hits your build
This matters during rough-in and before drywall. Once walls close, adding or moving wiring becomes expensive. Plan ahead.
