Return duct
A return duct pulls air from a room back to the HVAC system for reconditioning and recirculation.
Why it matters
Without adequate return air paths, rooms build positive pressure, doors are hard to close, and the HVAC system works harder.
Where people get this wrong
Return ducts bring air back to the system. Supply ducts push conditioned air out. Both are needed for proper airflow.
Real-world example
The master bedroom has a supply register blowing conditioned air in and a return grille pulling stale air back to the air handler.
Where this hits your build
This affects daily comfort in every room. Problems often show up after move-in when certain rooms run hot, cold, or noisy.
Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
