Splash block
A splash block is a small pad at the end of a downspout that spreads water out so it does not dig a trench.
Why it matters
It reduces erosion and keeps water from pooling near the foundation.
Where people get this wrong
A splash block helps, but an extension usually helps more. If the yard slopes toward the house, a splash block cannot fix that.
Real-world example
You look outside after a storm and see mud splattered up on the siding near the downspout. A simple splash block can keep that mess, and that water, moving away.
Where this hits your build
This term shows up during construction and affects decisions that are hard to reverse once the work moves forward. Understanding it now saves time, money, and frustration later.
Most people do not just struggle with terms. They struggle with the decisions tied to them.
