Junction box
A junction box is a protective box where wires connect. It keeps connections safe and accessible.
Why it matters
Loose connections can overheat and start fires. Boxes also ensure repairs can happen later without opening walls.
Where people get this wrong
Splices should not be buried behind drywall without a box. A junction box must stay accessible.
Real-world example
A light stops working years later. If the splice is in an accessible box, the fix is simple. If the splice is hidden in a wall, the fix becomes a drywall job.
Where this hits your build
This matters during rough-in and before drywall. Once walls close, adding or moving wiring becomes expensive. Plan ahead.
